I didn’t watch the Emmy Awards, and I still haven’t seen any of Michaela Coel’s work (yet). But, I happened to watch her Emmy speech because of a random tweet. It’s a good meditation for me, as I feel I have so much to say based on my health challenges and the struggles of building a company, but have yet, years later, to get a word out. I need to take her words to heart.
I just wrote a little something, for writers, really.
Write the tale that scares you – that makes you feel uncertain, that isn’t comfortable.
I dare you, in a world that entices us to browse through the lives of others to help us better determine how we feel about ourselves, and to in turn feel the need to be constantly visible. For visibility these days seems to somehow equate to success.
Do not be afraid to disappear – from it, from us, for a while, and see what comes to you in the silence.
